The Brazilian Association of African Mahogany Producers was born in 2011, from the union of foresters of the genus Khaya in Brazilian soil. At that time, there were half a dozen producers who already dreamed of making the African Mahogany become the largest species of trees planted in Brazil and in the world. Walking towards this goal, we grew slowly in number of members, but in a positive way and with firm steps. As a result, we have aggregated people who share the same ideas. Today we are an expressive number of planters that hold at least a quarter of the total amount of mahogany planted in Brazil. There were many actions to spread the word about the beauty of the wood, academic studies, and promotion of meetings that aggregated not only the members, but the whole community of African mahogany planters. We have not yet finished the first cycles, but we have already learned a lot! We hope with all the work that has been done, to leave a legacy for the history of African Mahogany in Brazil.
Dreamers, investors, pioneers, they felt the need to get together and organize themselves in an association that would meet their needs, share the little knowledge that we have of the species, in Brazilian soil. This union has brought us here. Many years of sharing, friendship and generosity in sharing the information generated in studies and by the experimental practice of each one. This success has generated a group that is extremely united, engaged in its goals, and very proactive: it has become a reference in the cultivation of this species in Brazil. With the support of the ABPMA Board of Directors, these associates have been outstanding in the cultivation of Mahogany in the national and international scenario. The Association is formed by an Executive Board and several groups created to develop and solve issues of interest. Taking advantage of the professional skills of the associates, the Board organizes and invites the associates to be an active part of these groups. Members of the current Executive Board President: Ricardo Ribeiro Tavares Executive Director: Patricia Alves Fonseca Directors and Counselors: André Baduy, Flavius Rubira, Luciana Maluf, Paulo Sabonge, Paulo Cardoso, Raphael Cruz.
The ABPMA came to unite the producers in a group of members and technical staff that join forces together, and add quality and confidence in the stages of production and marketing of the species. We are the home and family of the Brazilian producer's mahogany. Our goals - To encourage and disseminate techniques and research to members - To encourage good practices and sustainability in the field - To create and maintain the mentality of exchange of experiences among producers, reinforcing the associative spirit. - To be a source of true and reliable information - Promote seminars, meetings and reunions among the members and for guests from the entire forestry sector. - To be a link between the Universities, the researchers and the producer - To be present in events, fairs and missions, national and international of the area - To assist in the planning of the associate for individual and joint commercialization - Divulge the African Mahogany to be recognized and well priced in the national market. - Make Brazil the largest producer of African Mahogany in the world. -Indications of reliable professionals for the needs of the producer; - Disclosure of the Association and the species, in various vehicles of communication. The ABPMA (Brazilian Association of African Mahogany Producers) has been playing an important role in the expansion of African Mahogany cultivation throughout Brazil. With the vision of promoting the sustainability and profitability of the sector, the association has invested in strategic actions so that producers in all states can have access to information, technologies and resources necessary for the success of the cultivation.
One of our objectives is to create bonds among the planters, because we believe that a successful future will depend on the sum of forces: of work to produce quality wood, of information exchange to minimize losses, of planning for commercialization and generation of profits. Among the many benefits of being a member we can mention the groups organized by subjects, where the member has ample and free space to participate and ask questions.
Formed by the best researchers and academics, financing research of interest to members
Formed by members who already have wood to sell, estimating this timber stock annually for a period of 4 years. This group plans and seeks sources for the commercialization of the wood, aiming to maximize the profits from planting and supplying quantities that meet demand.
Formed by all associates, all partner researchers, agronomists and forestry engineers and consultants in all areas related to cultivation. In this group all questions about planting can be asked, and the answers will come from the best professionals and researchers on the subject.
Formed by associates with extensive experience in the financial market. They jointly seek alternatives for financing plantations in public and private financial institutions. They encourage new investors for the associates' businesses.
Formed by professionals from the area, that are always updating the website, social networks, and mainly, looking for quality and interesting content to be published for the entire sector.
The ABPMA is composed of a group of excellent professionals, willing to share information and experiences in favor of a single objective: to value and obtain the best from the beautiful wood of mahogany! It is the living representation of the African proverb that says: "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go in a group." With this group, we will go very far! Proud to be part of this family!
"Over time the business scenario has changed a bit, and the final cut has been longer than expected. On the other hand, the involvement with the subject, the beauty of seeing the plantation turning into a forest, the first interactions and experiences with wood are very motivating. The ABPMA gave us a great deal of security, both technically and commercially. The information about the management of the Mahogany culture helped us to plan and grow together. There is a very strong cooperativism in the Association. One member helps the other by passing valuable information and opening paths for the younger ones in the culture."
At Boa Esperança Farm we are specialized in planting the African Mahogany Khaya Grandifoliola, a large and rectilinear species, whose wood is used mainly for carpentry, doors, floors, objects, and many other uses.
"Our associates Michel and Fausto from the Mogno Verde farm in Paragominas / PA. Together they do the most advanced seed selection work in the country. They have the support of our association and are open to visitation by members and interested parties."
"ABPMA undoubtedly strengthened the category of African Mahogany producers in Brazil. In addition to enabling members to share rich technical knowledge, especially through carefully organized seminars, it encourages activity by inserting African Mahogany in the select decoration market. A growing sector depends on a united category and it is precisely through an association of national scope that this union is strongly achieved. "
